Our story

A domain shaped by time, tended by hand

Domain Publique has been part of this landscape for generations — a place where the land speaks and the wine listens.

Where it all began

Domain Publique was founded in the early 1900s by the Marchand family, who arrived from Burgundy with little more than a few cuttings and an unshakeable belief in this valley's potential. They planted the first vines on the south-facing slopes, coaxing life from rocky soil that others had dismissed.

Decades passed. The domain changed hands, survived two world wars, and slowly earned its reputation — not through ambition, but through patience. Each generation added something: a new cellar, a different grape variety, a deeper understanding of what this particular corner of the world could produce.

Today, Domain Publique is a living archive of all that came before. We make wine the way it has always been made here — with respect for the land, attention to the seasons, and a willingness to let things take the time they need.

What we believe

Our values

1

Terroir first

We believe the land has more to say than the winemaker. Our job is to listen carefully and get out of the way.

2

Patience over yield

We never rush a vintage. If the grapes aren't ready, neither are we. Quality is a practice, not a target.

3

Open doors

The name says it all — domain publique means public domain. We believe great wine should be shared, not hoarded.

4

Honest craft

No shortcuts, no additives beyond what's necessary. What's in the bottle is what grew in the ground.

The vineyard

Forty hectares of old vines, three distinct soil types, and one obsession: balance.

The estate sits at an elevation of 280–340 metres, where cool nights preserve acidity and long summer days build complexity. The oldest vines — some over a century old — produce tiny yields of extraordinary concentration.

We farm organically, cover-cropping between rows to build soil health and encourage biodiversity. The vineyard is home to dozens of bird species, wild herbs, and the occasional fox who seems to know exactly when harvest begins.
